Using a nanometer titanium dioxide (TiO2) as the main photocatalyst carrier, under the longer wavelength ultraviolet lamp illumination, react the photochemical catalysis like foliage photosynthesis with generating hydroxyl radical and active oxygen with extra strong oxidbility, it can effectively decompose the formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia gas etc hazardous organic compound in the air into the non-toxic material like carbon dioxide and water; it also has the anti-bacterial function, it can kill escherichia coli, staphylococcus aureus and some other bacillis. What Is A Photocatalyst?

Photo-Catalysis is defined as "acceleration by the presence of a catalyst". A catalyst does not change in itselt or being consumed in the chemical reaction. This definition includes photosensitization, a process by which a photochemical alteration occurs in one molecular entity as a result of initial absorption of radiation by another molecular entity called the photosensitized.
Chlorophyll of plants is a type of photocatalyst called photosynthesis. Photocatalysis is when chlorophyll captures sunlight to turn water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. Photocatalysis is the creation of a strong oxidation agent to breakdown any organic matter to carbon dioxide and water in the presence of the photocatalyst,light and water.

 

How Photocatalysis Works?

Photocatalysis is the acceleration of a photoreaction in the presence of a catalyst. In catalysed photolysis, light is absorbed by an adsorbed substrate. In photogenerated catalysis the photocatylytic activity (PCA) depends on the ability of the catalyst to create electron hole pairs, which generate free radicals (hydroxyl radicals: OH) able to undergo secondary reactions. Its comprehension has been made possible ever since the discovery of water electrolysis by means of the titanium dioxide. Commercial application of the process is called Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP). There are several methods of achieving AOPs, that can but do not necessarily involve TiO2 or even the use of UV. Generally the defining factor is the production and use of the hydroxyl radical.
